E Vero E Vero E Vero

2022

Kinetic light art installation commissioned by the Museum of Art Hong Kong, for the exhibition the Road to the Baroque

Baroque, as reimagined by art historians and philosophers, is not just a historical style but a sensibility—an expressive force that transcends time and place. È vero, è vero, è vero does not seek to simply reinterpret the Baroque but draws from its bold and defiant spirit, reflecting lives shaped by conviction and resilience.

The title references Artemisia Gentileschi’s Judith and her Maidservant with the Head of Holofernes, a painting charged with autobiographical weight. Created in response to her traumatic experience and the brutal trial that followed, Gentileschi’s unwavering testimony—“È vero, è vero, è vero” (“It is true, it is true, it is true”)—became a declaration of truth under torture.

This work honors her steadfastness and also pays tribute to another radical voice of her era, Galileo Galilei. Like Artemisia, Galileo challenged authority, transforming adversity into a legacy that forever altered history. È vero, è vero, è vero channels this defiance, illuminating how the Baroque’s intensity still speaks to the way we feel alive.
