Kinetic art installation, commissioned by Nan Fung
Housed in the art collection of Airside, a dynamic mixed-use development in Kai Tak, this piece is deeply rooted in the location’s unique history. Airside occupies the site of Hong Kong’s former airport, which ceased operations in 1998. Before its transformation into runways, the Sun Po Kong area, now part of Kai Tak, was believed to be a landscape of cattail fields, where cottony seed tufts known as floccules would drift through the air. The site-specific artwork, gracefully suspended in the atrium, echoes this evolution. Its gentle rising and falling motions trace the swirling patterns of development over time, from the natural landscape to aviation hub and now a modern urban space. Floccus offers a moment of fresh contemplation amidst the energy of everyday life.
